Ally Membership
We are in a critical time for thousands across multiple communities; among them are the hard-working immigrant families across South and Coastal Georgia.
They have been targeted and scapegoated for years, but in the last couple of years, the fervor has exponentially increased.
Georgia’s State Legislature has been passing draconian laws such as GA HB 1105, which would require local law enforcement to cooperate with ICE to separate families in Georgia.
Our communities are essential to South Georgia’s growth, both economically and culturally. The agriculture prominence in Georgia is deeply dependent on the immigrant workforce.
As they are being disparaged and persecuted, immigrant families are in critical need of support from individuals who can utilize their privilege of documented status (i.e. Citizenship) to ensure the safety of their immigrant neighbors.
MESE has launched a couple of Membership Programs, one of which is the Ally Membership program, which facilitates a space for our neighbors who are willing to be on the frontlines to defend our communities from these attacks.
There are many roles allies can play in protecting the dignity and respect of immigrants in South Georgia:
Providing rides to address essential needs (school, groceries, hospital visits)
Responding to reports of ICE raids and documenting their actions
Providing emotional support to immigrant families who are experiencing the trauma of family separation
Advocating for immigrant rights, dignity, and respect to elected officials on the local, state, and federal levels
Distributing information to immigrant communities with Know Your Rights information
Join MESE as an Ally Member to support and advocate for our communities at this pivotal point.
